National Forklift Safety Day

6/9/2016

Towlift, Inc. will observe the second annual National Forklift Safety Day June 14, 2016 to raise awareness about the importance of forklift safety. Every day, many people are injured or killed in forklift accidents. The best way to prevent more from occurring is through education, training and awareness. National Forklift Safety Day serves as a reminder and a renewal of our commitment towards safe forklift use because safety is of the utmost importance for all Towlift employees.

The Industrial Truck Association (ITA) has sponsored this day since its inauguration June 10, 2014 in Washington, D.C. At first, it was meant to connect Congress with industrial companies to discuss export trade barriers. However, it’s become a spotlight that shines on occupational safety.

The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) estimates that an average of 85 people are killed in forklift accidents every year while about 34,900 accidents result in serious injury and 62,000 result in non-serious injuries. The National Safety Council (NSC) estimated that 70% of
forklift accidents are caused by the operator. Operator inattentiveness is preventable.

OSHA believes that proper education and training will lead to a 25-30% decrease in accidents rates while they’ve found a 61% improvement in operator performance scores after effective training.

Towlift offers several different operator training classes, safety classes, veterans’ classes and recertification classes. The goal of these classes is to educate operators, old and new alike, about proper lift truck safety procedures. Towlift trains over 2,000 operators a year. With that,
Towlift has contributed to the cause and continues to do so every day.
